May to early October for swimming and lake terraces. Winter is quiet and considerably cheaper, and the best indoor spas are just as good under grey skies.

Where to base yourself

The eastern shore — Veyrier, Menthon, Talloires — is the calmest and has the strongest hotels. The old town is walkable and lively, better if you want restaurants at the door.
